Do you Think Yelllow is Mellow?

...Think again!  Although it works well with almost any other color, yellow is arguably the most powerful color on the color wheel.  I'm not sure, but maybe yellow just beats whatever colors it shares a room with into submission.  Is yellow really all that, and a bag of chips?  Well, as Sarah Palin would say, YOU BETCHA!

It is the Feng Shui color of sunlight, and it is the one color that truly embodies the nurturing nature of the sun, which of course, we humans are drawn to for our very existence.  Yellow increases self-esteem and conveys an overall since of well-being.  It has also been said that the allure of yellow is tied to the ultimate yellow:   gold bullion.  Late last year, experts proclaimed that the color yellow was our best color choice to save us from all the doom and gloom of the world's current wars and economic troubles.  Now, that's a lot of power!

Because yellow is a powerful color, use it with caution:
  • When using yellow paint, don't trust the paint chip.  Yellows are particularly notorious for intensifying as they dry.  Light bounces off yellow much as it does a mirror so the color will become much lighter.
  • Don't overuse yellow.  It is such an intense color that a little bit will do.  Yellow walls with yellow furniture and accessories will make a room so bright, you will feel your retinas burning!
  • A good way to try out the power of yellow is by starting slowly with a few yellow accent pieces such as lamps or a small chair.
