Budget Holiday Table Top Decorating
Versatile Decor: Is this table set for holiday dining or for an anniversary celebration?
Let's face it. hosting a holiday dinner in your home is exhausting and expensive. I think most of us want the emphasis to be on the food as opposed to the decor. With food prices having significantly increased over the last 12 months, you can easily send a small fortune on delectable foods for your event. But you don't have to spend a lot to make your dining room look like it's was photographed for HGTV. Use my simple tips to make your table a memorable display:
- Don't buy a holiday-specific tablecloth. Instead, use the classic off-white/white damask or hemstitch that you already have. If you don't have one of these classic styled tablecloths, buy one and you'll use it for years to come for a variety of events. In fact, steer more toward making you Holiday decor festive and elegant as opposed to in-your-face cutesy with Santas, reindeer, Pilgrim and turkeys such scattered about. An elegant approach is much more cost effective and memorable.
- Use lot's of tea candles. They're cheap and they can be dressed up to look like they're more than they are by displaying them in cups, bowls, or stemware that you already have.
- Use ribbons, ribbons, and more ribbons. A large 1 inch wide roll of velvet ribbon will go a long way. Likewise for a roll of harvest colored ribbon for our Thanksgiving celebration. Tie it around the base of candle holders. Tie it around napkins. Tie it at the end of your tablecloth. Of course, once Christmas is over, you can remove the ribbons and save them for next year's party.
- Think outside the box and use your wrapped Christmas gifts to create vertical height on your Christmas buffet or table. Instead of reserving your Christmas stockings for your fireplace mantle consider hanging one on the back of each of your dining chairs. Use the stocking as place cards by putting guests' names on them (Christmas gift sticky name tags will do), or to place gifts or goodies for your guests.
